Loonie’s Balewala Released, Willan Rivera Sits Down For Early Morning Coffee Talks

Director and screenwriter Willan Rivera discloses concept behind “Balewala”, the official music video of Philippine rap icon Loonie.

After having some spoiler revealed prior the release of Loonie’s “Balewala” official music video, Director Willan Rivera granted our request for an interview. This time, he didn’t just give me a quick look—he allowed me to roam around the vast portals of his magnificent mind as the MV was FINALLY released.

And yeah! That was pretty scary! Here’s what we’ve talked about around 4:00 in the morning!

Admin: Hi Direk! Thank you for this chance to sit down and talk about your latest project.
Director Rivera: You’re welcome. Sorry for the delay ‘tho! I was in Batangas for a shoot.

Admin: Okay. Let’s get down to business. My first question, how did you come up with concept of “Balewala”?

Director Rivera: I always wanted something different. More of upgrade ang gusto ko mangyari!

Admin: I can see that with the evolution of the music videos you have been making.

Director Rivera: HAHAHA! Naniniwala kaba sa demonic possession? Yung nasaniban?

Admin: Stop scaring me direk, ang aga2x po. Seriously?

I mean personally?

Admin: How about home invasions? Three men are seen to be invading Loonie’s house and eventually nagtangkang pagsamantalahan ang kanyang asawa at saktan ang kanyang mga anak sa MV ng Balewala. What’s your take on this one?

Wag natin kalimutan ano, “an idle mind is the devil’s workshop” kaya dapat talaga maging busy sa makabuluhang mga bagay-bagay.

Admin: Naku! (creeped off, seriously FREAKING OUT!)

Director Rivera: HAHAHA.

We are probably living according to the normalcy of what our eyes see as the “regular” society. However, without our knowing, daily demonic attacks through peculiar events have been taking place all over the world. Direk Willan, as he is fondly called, shared the concept behind the "very spiritual" Balewala Official Music Video that would probably get you blown away. This was apart from what was revealed from the conversation we had.

God’s messenger, Angel Gabriel was also portrayed in the music video. The role was played by beat maker Klumcee, who handed Loonie (played by Kiko Matos) a necklace, warning him of devil attacks. The Angel of Death, played by Marsin Maarfi Dimitrov, was also present in the video who was seen to be debating with the Devil, played by Aklas, about finally taking the soul of Loonie. Loonie's wife in the video was played by China Roces. Mae Dizon who sang vocals for Balewala was also part of the masterpiece. Remarkable performances from Vic Roman, Basty Batistis, Poko Ditablan, Richmond Pampolme and Luis Gabriel Cerda paved way for notable characters in this movie-like music video. Artifice Records in collaboration with Clips Films gave life to the OMV of Loonie's Balewala.
