Willan Rivera x Aklas x Klumcee: A Different Kind of Plead!

Drug addiction has caused a serious problem in the country. The Philippines has been confronted with this dilemma not only in present times but from the years before. However, not much attention was given due to the common "mindset" that most Filipinos have to live and deal with drugs. Crimes have emerged that caused the innocent their lives, families to be broken apart and the living soul to be inhabited by evil forces.

In the latest offering from Luminous Films and CLIPS, "Hangyo", a movie by Director Willan Rivera revolves around true events as the Philippine-government increases its campaign towards its biggest enemy--drugs.

Aside from the notable characters played by the biggest names in the industry, the brilliant director has teamed up with beat-maker genius, Klumcee and underground avant garde hip-hop experimentalist Aklas, in creating a one-of-a-kind soundtrack for the upcoming advocacy film.

The song, "Putang Ina" (pardon my french) written by Aklas, may sound too explicit. However, the lyrics of the song clearly depicts how a drug user gets hooked with crack (shabu) and gets his entire system submerged with farcical thinking until the mind finally gives up.

Coincidentally, the title (which translates Son of a Bitch in English) is also the same expression frequently getting the Philippine President, the lead advocate for wiping out drug users and pushers alike, in hot seat. More coincidence emerged as the song title's abbreviation, PI, is also the same as our motherland's initials, Philippine Islands.

Meanwhile, Klumcee has added his touches to the beat creating a Rap-Metal masterpiece. Director Rivera is not only known for his award-winning music video creations but for his in-depth love for a vast genre of music and the arts.

Hangyo springs from the local dialect, Cebuano, meaning "plead." The former is also the same word where officials derived Oplan Tokhang from, its stringent campaign towards drugs. Tok, the shortened term taken from Katok, and Hang, the first syllable from Hangyo, which translates, to knock and plead. In broader meaning, Hangyo is a forewarning for drug pushers and users alike to return and revise their ways before the hand of steel takes it wrath.

Currently, the movie is 75% completed and would soon serve as entry to different prestigious international film festivals eyed by Director Rivera. Are you as excited as I am? WATCH the movie teaser below.
